Is hatred, Animosity, Fear and Racism getting worse in South Africa?
This morning i heard a news report regarding a facebook group, the facebook group ” ek laaik nie n houtkop nie sou what” with a contact address of (anti.kaffer@yahoo.com). The group, which featured a picture of a guy with a gun standing over a black person (seemingly dead) on the floor. Since then the image has been changed and all the admins/creators have left.
To be honest, i am APPALLED at this. It has me wondering if my decision to resign from my cushy expat position and move back to South Africa was the best considering this and the Xenophobia attacks,.
Is hatred, animosity, fear and racism just getting worse?
In a world, where communication and people can group together very easily, are we going to see increase in hate 2.0?
Are parents passing on their hatred, fear, animosity to their kids. So even though we now live in an open society, and you have kids being born in the new South Africa, those feelings are passed on?
Take an example, my little brother who is 9, born in 1999, he never knew the difference between black and white. It never existed to him. As a kid, he played with the neighbors kids, he started speaking a little Zulu when he was very young due to the amount of time he spent with these kids. Yet when he started going to school, something changed. It was like all of a sudden he somehow “learnt” that people were ‘different’ based on skin colour. I remember a year back he made a comment that was clearly racist. At home, we are conscious of this and have always tried to instill the right ethics in him. Such as there is no such thing as class or racial divisions. Yet he some how picked it up from somewhere, most likely school.
I had a chat with him, and explained to him how it was wrong and it was unacceptable, how people should not be judged by external factors such as race, religion or wealth. How the only thing that matters is Character and Ethics. Since then he has never made any comments (in front of me), though for an 8 year old kid, you can understand how confusing it must be. At home he may be learn one set of values, while his friends may have another set of values that completely conflicts with those at home.
For kids who’s parents / family are NOT conscious of this or who may be racist themselves this passes it on to the next generation, and other kids could pick up on it, they in turn affect the kids around them.
So is it all getting much worse rather then better?
There’s a campaign…. It Starts with you. It really does, so here’s a challenge. The next time you hear someone say something….
“These xx are so y…” , have the courage to say
NO, thats wrong, what you said was unacceptable and purely Racist.
One of my favourite movies of all time is American History X, Some lessons to be learnt from that for South Africans. Hatred breeds hatred and then its a slippery slope down till we get things like this.
So make a stand against racism, I am starting, with Naming and Shaming the racists who joined the Group

It’s wrong what they did – zero excuses, they should be named and shamed.
BUT
a little part of me understands some of their frustration – its not right, but i understand…
Can you blame people for feeling this way considering the current situation in the country? I love my country. I was born during apartheid yet I did not see it because all the kids in school were the same as me. I remember being told to go to the “indian beach” once in Durban when I was 5 or 6 because we walked to the white beach… that was the only form of racism I experienced personally. Not enough to hate another race though.
If the crime problem is solved (not in the near future since it is ingrained within most running the operation), then I think most would stop being racist. Maybe this whole BEE/AA thing should also come to an end as this is just fueling the racist behaviour. I ain’t a politician but this my layman opinion…. my two pence on this subject.
Ismail.
This is clearly a racist group and a pretty small one at that so I would evaluate it as such.
Having said that however judging people by any stereotype be that race, sex, religious belief, sexual orientation, age etc is clearly not very useful , people can just not be defined that way.Unfortunately though racism is inherent in our society, and is still institutionalised in national policy.
“… our country will never be prosperous or free until all our people live in brotherhood, enjoying equal rights and opportunities;
that only a democratic state, based on the will of all the people, can secure to all their birthright without distinction of colour, race, sex or belief…” The Freedom Charter.
I saddens me that we are still very far from this dream.
I think that your initiative is a good one … and I will continue to do exactly what you suggest.
I’m going to hold back my thoughts on such a touchy subject, but have two points to make:
1. Creating groups like this is NOT NOT NOT helping the matter in anyway, so good on your for taking a stand against this!
2. Just remember, a lot of people on Facebook are not savvy and might join a group without any idea of what they’re getting themselves into, so just be careful who you flame on your blog
Nice post, big up!
You know what makes things worse, when it is white on black, it gets shout out as racist attack and it is all over the news and even make it on the international news.
But when it is black on white, it is kept under the blanket and you dont hear of ir and no it is not a racist attack.
This is bullshit !!!!!!!!! And i know why some of us are the way we are because white afrikaans people in south africa cant do anything then it gets shout out that we are racist. But if you black you can doe what ever you want !!!
Catch awake up and smell the coffee before it is cold !!!!!!!!
While i dont condone what the group stood for and all that, i hope you have a good lawyer friend!
I am a lawyer myself and what you have done here is highly illegal. You are infringing on these peoples rights as they have not been convicted of anything.
Again, i dont condone the group but at the same time, i dont condone this type of illegal behaviour. Lawyer up quickly my friend. I am very sure that some of the people you have listed here will sue.
Nice on jumping the gun here… honestly Ismail Dhorat, I only think you are using this as a stunt to get hits to your own website. Remember that there might be innocent people involved here… I hear/know of stories where people “highjack” facebook profiles and load any picture to it. You might want to get all your fact together before you “shame” them all to a wall. Remember that your site will be listed when people start suing… I agree fully that we do not need racists but remember to get all the facts as there might be people you are listing that are actually not part of the racist stunts…
You think thats it? I clicked on the groups which one of these toolkits is a member of and found the following links as well:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=11452856882 – Foken Kaffer
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21557573304 – Skiet Die Fokker en begrawe hom in jou tuin!
Its true if we dont satnd in this generation against it who will stand for our kids and their generation even more to come we have to make this country a better place for all not just people who think they are better off alone, we are a united nation and we hould stand as PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN against such,
thanks I D, will keep our heads up and walk with pride and hold our flag high as we unite
I am a South African white man. I can not apply for every single job thats available, because of BEE and AA, I am 24 years old, I had absolutely no part in apartheid! WHY MUST I PAY FOR THE SINS OF MY FOREFATHERS?????
Now I do not condone this group, and I think it was stupid to start such a group, BUT I get so angry when things like this happen! Would this have made such big news if it was a group against white people??? Hell NO! I read recently on news 24 about the extreme racist supervisor who spray painted his poor black staff in the face. (I do not agree with what he did) Then there was comments from some member of the government who said that such racist behaviour is unacceptable!
Then, just a bit further down on that same page, I read about an afrikaans woman and her daughter who was beaten to death with a piece of metal, the suspects name gave it away that he was a black man. Guess wht, not one mention of the word racist behaviour! So you can kill someone and you are called a suspect, but spraypaint some one and you are a racist!
This pisses me off more than you can imagine, why is there double standards? When you read about all the farmers whor are tortured and killed, you never hear the word racist never! But as soon as the white man does anything against a black man, he is a racist! But I suppose I should just stop reading news24 because THANK GOD I DONT LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA ANYMORE!!!!!
Racism is wrong, but sometimes we take something and turn it into something that it’s not! Allthough I do agree that this group was racist, i need to say, maybe start speaking out against the black racists as well!!!!!!!!!!!!
“lawyer” is bluffing. These people joined a group (of their own free will) which is clearly racist, and you’ve reported on their membership, which was a matter of public record anyway. Defamation? I think not.
@naeem frustration is one thing. we all feel it… the question is what are you doing about it?
@Ani Yes we have issues (crime/Corruption etc.) the question again is… what are you doing about it? We can all sit here and BITCH about things, and complain till we blue in the face. Only thing that will matter is Action! Also the situation in our country is NO reason to be racist.
@Walter Pike Agreed, i think people fear that if people are empowered their slice of the pie gets less, this is a very old way of thinking. The more people that are empowered the better life is for every South African.
@Anti-Kak any racism is bad! No matter what, Racism, nationalism& tribalism (when it calls you to kill other nations)
@lawyer thanks for the advice, however i stand by this post. They can sue…
@Kevin Thanks
but the facts were simple, those people were part of a group.
@Joe thanks
@leboganga thanks
@whiteman agreed, any form of racism is wrong. So point me to that, and ill write up on it.
@ian thanks, i also had a few comments via my email form requesting for contact details to sue.
So if you want to email: iwillsueyou@ismail.otherinbox.com
Hello Everybody
First, I think it goes without saying that just about everybody feels that what happened is unacceptable and the group should have been shut down as soon as it was brought to life.
Whenever I am in doubt about a situation I turn to the Bible and get my aswers there… Marcus 12:33 says: “And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” The instruction is simple. Love everything created by God. As we know, that is everything en everyone on earth. If you love your brother you will not start or associate with these groups.
Frustration gets the better of all of us at some point and these are the “tests” we get challenged with and must overcome. As far as BEE, AA, etc goes I think one has to look at the bigger picture. I believe in the concept but must add that if you are honest with yourself you too will find that to not give a qualified person a job because he is white is nothing else than racism.
I want to finish off by saying we are not allowed to judge. God will judge everybody when their day comes. There is a fine line between giving ones opinion and to judge. Lets put our time, effort and resources into being the change we want to see in this beautiful and culture rich country we call Republic of South Africa.
Ismail, I like the fact that you stand up for what you believe in but to put this out on the web with names and a photo of those involved is not right. Let them be judged by God when the day comes and rather remove this page where you invade their privacy and scrutinize their actions.
No hard feelings…
Njoy a lovely day in SA!
10 out of 10 for acting so quickly and nabbing these tragically deluded individuals before they had a chance to chicken out of that revolting group! What I find particularly disturbing, having glanced at a few of their facebook profiles, is firstly, how young so many of those people are (i.e. its gonna take more than a few post-apartheid generations to wipe that sh*t out) and secondly, all the links to OTHER crazy groups like the AWB and the Broederbond… Eish. Apartheid is alive and well, and sadly its not just confined to Orania! Thank god that the twits who signed up for that group will always remain in the miserable minority in our beautiful country! If they don’t like it here, let them leave!
Ps. in response to Average South African – i reckon a) this is your own blog, so you can post what you like, and b) if those nutters were daft enough to sign up to the original group, without any privacy settings imposed on their facebook profiles, then that’s their own stupidity!
Pps. remind me never to enrol at the Uni of the North-West! haha!
Ppss. Don’t panic – no one can sue you for re-publishing already publicly available information on a blog. That’s just stupid.
Gowd you are such a fucking retard….
what will this prove? that u are a fucking racist hatespeech leftwinger yourself
Jou_ma_se_poes_kaffer
Dude I dont know what you are trying to do…but I am not part of that gpoup and never was. But you posted my face on the internet? I dont know how you did it and I dont care….but please just get your facts straight. I never joined that group!! And I am definitally not a racist!
Hay all. Listen, this racism group is totall nonscense, I am hurt by this site.
God put us all together on this earth, he asked us to live in peace and harmony… Is this site and hate realy nessessary?
I for one know, that a few of these people listed above, are innocend. You are wrong if you thing they all had a part in this. They did not join this group. So why not just leave it, let God’s way take cours…
Peace will only be in this country if we can except each other. So why not just start by doing it 2day? People have the right to there own opinions – so let them be.
I pray that all of you will see the light and let God into your hearts – may peace be with you all.
PCapetonian
In response to your a) and b) comments…
a) The page on facebook was their own page so they could say what they want and I quote:”this is your own blog, so you can post what you like”
and
b) Privicy settings or not, their information is not allowed to be posted without their permission…
Also, I was a student as North West University and you need a higher IQ than that of yours to be accepted so don’t worry. You wouldn’t be accepted anyway! To label an instatution because of the actions of a few isn’t fair or accurate for matter.
Ppss. Find better representation than that of PCapetonian. The “clever” chap isn’t well in formed and you can be sued…
Non the less I say again. I don’t agree with what happened. It was wrong but so is this…
I’m from the USA. I’ve never been to SA, so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about, but it looks to me like everything is slowly culminating into genocide of white people in SA.
I don’t get a lot of the facts, but it looks like there is a farm killing every three days, and these farm killings are no ordinary killings. They are the most sick and disturbing killings I have ever heard of. It also looks to me like white women are raped by black men daily, and once again they are targeted because they are white. And the black men seem to always joke about having AIDS while raping them (and I’m sure many of them do have AIDS).
Correct me if I’m wrong, but these look like steps toward genocide of white people in SA. In fact, the only reason I think organized genocide of white people has not occurred in SA is because the ANC would be afraid of the USA’s reaction, which, I’m sorry to tell you, wouldn’t be much. Saving white people from genocide would be considered racist.
I live in the USA and I don’t fear for my life on a daily basis. I can sleep easy at night. Despite that, I probably have more guns and ammunition than the average white South African who probably does fear for their life on a daily basis.
Also, I would like to add how terrible the recent killings by Johan Nel were. It was actually mentioned on CNN, but of course CNN didn’t mention all the mean things black people have done to him, his family, and his friends because they are white, which pushed him over the edge. But in the photos, I saw a line of police guarding the court house. One of the police was white. He looked honest, he looked like he takes his job seriously, he looked like he wants to do well, and I just KNOW he is going to be murdered one day because he is white. Why doesn’t he just LEAVE? Why doesn’t Johan Nel just LEAVE instead of kill people? Maybe as an American I just don’t understand.
Here are some questions I want to ask white South Africans:
1) Why don’t you get the hell out?
2) What makes you think you belong there in the first place?
3) Why on Earth would you have a baby in South Africa? Why bring a child into the world only so that they can be BRUTALLY murdered and raped?
I am South African, I am Afrikaans, I am White, and sensibly I am also a radical Hiper-Calvanist… And extremely proud of it!!!! I have no regrets, no remorse, nor a sense of guilt towards Apartheid and what it has done, simply because I WAS NOT THERE, NOR WAS I INVOLVED. Furthermore, I was brought up extremely religious, and to my disgrace, politically very liberal. Last mentioned is a thorn in my flesh, but also the reason for my “great awakening.”
Fortunately I do not condone any form of racist behavior from neither side. But as can be seen, the result of a new South Africa, and a democratically elected government, our country is simply ruled by unintelligent individuals. Cowardly allowing rape and murder to go unseen. Survival is vice, and “racism” (or love for oneself) the result.
My big question is this: What has Africa contributed towards the benefit of humanity (except slavery), was there any notable inventions that triggered a “golden age” in Africa… unless however there was a “foreign National” involved in doing it? Now, after 15 years of democracy, BEE, AA, no one, apart from a few elite individuals, achieved anything of note unless however another individual was crippled, whose great ancestor’s by the way invested their lives, roots and money here. Injustice is injustice, call it what you may, Apartheid, BEE, AA. I really don’t give rats-ass from which perspective you’re looking at it, it remains injustice, persecution and simply immoral, not too mention coward (If one considers the difference in the population of the various ethnic groups.) Why not focusing on expanding the economy to allow for more work… That will be something to be proud off. What sense of pride can any person have if one’s success is due to the labors, innovation and determination of another (That came before…)? Why not build something bigger to accommodate for the entire population, rather than destroying that which was freely handed over to you. But then, is that possible in Africa? Careers for certain individuals need to be fast-tracked, because there is obviously a sense of incapacity, or a lack of inherent quality for such a individual to be “long-term” focused… it boils down to sowing and reaping.
Why is Australia, so successful? I guess because they never had Apartheid, but then again, due to the fact because there were so many criminals there that were banned from their native countries, which simply killed every native they came across. There was therefore no one left to blame them for their “evolutionary backwardness.” (This makes me wonder everyday… Its like a Pit bull turning around on his master.) Unfortunately for SA, the builders of the country were mainly Christian, such as the Huguenots (who fled religious persecution), and therefore couldn’t murder unless their lives were in danger.
Luckily I have seen the light, and am in the progress of immigrating… But all I can say to minority groups in SA – especially whites, is get a good qualification and get the hell out while you can. (Hier gaan binne ‘n paar jaar groot strond spat!) To those that were already too much weakened and crippled economically by the country’s so called equal rights and “empowerment” schemes… Seek to join an underground society that agrees with the above-mentioned ideals. They would also know what to do when ‘that day’ arrives. They are growing in numbers daily, by especially young people, and have financial support from mainly overseas businessmen etc. (mostly Europe.) Although this is not an easy task to get in, they are there, just go out and look! (Which is understandable, – we have already been disarmed. Underground is the only way forward.)
Democracy is probably the worst form of government, except for all the others that came before it. – Winston Churchill
With regards too democracy … any government that regards the opinion of the local village idiot with the same merit as the opinion of “Aristotle” will surely fall into a system of idiot-cracy.
It is the mark of an educated mind, to receive a thought without accepting it. – Aristotle
The antidote of 50 enemies is 1 friend. – Aristotle
You will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor. – Aristotle
you guys are idiots. its just a silly group. take my name and picture off this site.
Take my picture and name off of this site immediatly. you cant use my information without my knowledge of it and i will take this a step further if you do not remove it.
